This story was updated May 9 to note that the listing for 212 E. 141st Place was removed hours after Homes.com published it was for sale.

Cardinal Robert Prevost was named the first American pope Thursday, and his humble beginnings started in Dolton, Illinois, in a modest brick 1,200-square-foot home that had been listed for sale as of this week at $199,900.

The house was taken off the market hours after Prevost became pope, taking the name Pope Leo XIV.

According to public records, Prevost’s family owned the home at 212 E. 141st Place from 1949 through 1996.

At the time of the 1996 sale, Prevost was serving in Peru, where he worked for several decades. He eventually became the bishop of Chiclayo in Peru and was appointed cardinal by Pope Francis in 2023.

His religious upbringing occurred in that Dolton home, located near the South Side of Chicago, about 22 miles outside the city. South Cook News previously reported that Prevost grew up in the home with his parents, Louis and Mildred, and two brothers. His mother was a librarian, and his father was a principal, according to media reports.

He graduated from the nearby St. Mary’s Catholic grammar school and studied to be a priest at the now-closed seminary Tolentine College in Olympia Fields, Illinois, from 1969 through 1973.

The agent selling the house, Steve Budzik of iCandy Realty, had no idea about his listing's connection to the pope, nor had he heard the news yet that the new pope was from the Chicago area.

“My reaction was just, ‘Wow, that’s amazing that I get the privilege to list his childhood home,’” Budzik said in an interview.

An investor purchased the property for just $66,000 in 2024 and began a rehab. The home was listed in January for $219,000 and underwent a $19,000 price cut in February.

“It’s a great price for the amount of bedrooms and bathrooms and being fully updated. It’s a phenomenal price,” said Budzik.

The home has three bedrooms, but Budzik said it can have room for nearly six, and three bathrooms, according to the Homes.com listing.

Austin, Texas has a DOG PROBLEM.....

Austin, Texas has a DOG problem (Letter I wrote and sent) Dear Austin City Council Members, Hello and well regards, Yesterday afternoon during a simple bicycle pedal exercise ride, I was physically chased by an unleashed Pitbull dog in ZILKER PARK. Then directly after recovering from almost being mauled by an unleashed pit-bull in Zilker Park, I attempted to buy a Gatorade at a nearby Barton Springs Road Market, but that didn't go well either, as an interior Market commercial customer had a massive mixed breed dog trolling through the diminutive shopping isles. Then this morning, at a Coffee shop on SoCo, there was only 1 entry way in and out, and there was another large, although more docile mixed breed dog. All of this has occurred in less than 24 hours. What's the point? The City of Austin's dog friendliness and citizen enabling of irresponsible dog owners has gotten out of control. Newsflash! Not everybody like dogs, being everywhere all the time. especially within ...

I got up early and went = ESPN's Live College Football Gameday Show @ University of Texas - Austin Fall 2024

I awoke circa 5:30 am this past Saturday, took a shower, grabbed a quick bite to eat and coffee@ QT; then rode my moped down to the University of Texas, South Lawn or "6-pack" area to view the LIVE ESPN taping and broadcast show, COLLEGE GAMEDAY. When I arrived on campus at 6 am it was still dark and there were plenty of fans already there. The actual LIVE College Gameday Show started at 8 am Central Time. We as fans are simply backdrop visuals and noise for the show. There were tons of fans signs, almost too many to even read. All of the On-Air TV Talent was friendly and excellent! Desmond Howard, Lee Corso, Pat McAfee, Kirk Herbstreet, and Nick Saban. Pat McAfee is the "get the home crowd revved up" talent, which is needed for the live show. Overall it was quite entertaining and free to attend. It'll get your Saturday juiced up. https://promo.espn.com/collegegameday/
