The Marfa, West Texas Trip & Blog Post

First, this trip  adventure and photo album is graciously dedicated to the kind couple of Mr. Don & Mrs. Linda Shafer. Don and Linda Shafer are Austin Silent Market real estate clients and  are original friends with my broker Dad George Sears McGee. I, George Vance McGee befriended Don and & Linda during casual passerby's in Clarksville West Austin as a fellow resident. I was an 7-8 year Clarksville loft studio renter. Don and Linda mentioned they spend parts of their year in a "pre-fabricated"  Modern Home and Guest Home they own & frequent in Marfa, Texas. The Shafers' created this estate on a gorgeous View-tastic hilltop. It's called, "the Glass House."

I'd personally describe the town and ambiance of Marfa Texas, as quiet, artsy, sleepy, and cool with a touch of NYC/Brooklyn Hipster sprinkled on top. All while still retaining West Texas authenticity.

My wife and I were fortunate enough to be house guests for 1 week.

Here were some of our enjoyable commercial business visits (that were open during our visit) in Marfa, Texas

Planet Marfa

The Sentinel Newspaper, Coffee Shop & Goods

The Marfa Spirit Co. Distillery

Cochineal Marfa Restaurant

Margaret's in Marfa Restaurant

Marfa Hardware Store

The following photo albums will organized by specific West Texas town and area. While a visit to Big Bend National Park is included too. According to patrons, Big Bend National Park is the least visited National Park in the United State, BUT the most re-visited National Park. Feel free to fact check this yourself.

This is a massing of the 6th & Lamar (Waterloo Records site) residential project based on the Planning Commission approved zoning. The original plans before a compromise was reached with the local neighborhood association called for a building 31' and two or three floors taller.  SHOULD YOU BUY a "FLIPPED" HOUSE?  Have you personally ever considered and wondered if you, yourself should BUY  a "flipped house." In my 15+ years of predominantly residential Central Austin brokerage practice and experience, here are my insights, opinions, suggestions and things to be cognizant of.  #1. Absolutely, for sure get a LICENSED INSPECTION on the flipped house! Not all flippers are the same. Just like in life there is a wide spectrum in regards to quality. Some flippers are flat out awful. They make very lipstick-like improvements, skip the expensive items such as the foundation, and plumbing and try to trick the consumer into paying more for a home, when the consumer shouldn't.  On the Flip Side (this joke was just too obvious) There are also excellent high-quality flippers whom selectively choose which homes they flip, and then they invest carefully and beautifully while genuinely  improving a home! Some of these hi-quality upper tier flippe...
