Possible Rainey Street Changes More potential new development plans for Rainey Street might uproot beer bar Craft Pride (which also includes a location of Detroit-style pizzeria Via 313) and easygoing patio bar Javelina, as reported by Austin Business Journal. The River Street Residences, from development companies River Street Partners and High Street Residential, would consist of a 48-story tower on Rainey and River streets. The article noted that the “developers seem to be working with the bars to possibly find them space within the high-rise.” The Austin Design Commission generally approved of the project during a meeting this week, but asked for more space for retail (perhaps referring to the potentially displaced bars) and affordable housing. Then directly after recovering from almost being mauled by an unleashed pit-bull in Zilker Park, I attempted to buy a Gatorade at a nearby Barton Springs Road Market, but that didn't go well either, as an interior Market commercial customer had a massive mixed breed dog trolling through the diminutive shopping isles. Then this morning, at a Coffee shop on SoCo, there was only 1 entry way in and out, and there was another large, although more docile mixed breed dog. All of this has occurred in less than 24 hours.
